What to expect...
The address is 1313 Hickory, KCMO 64102. I'm up on the 4th floor in studio 6.
Look for my teal colored sign on the building. "Amy DeSitter Painting & Drawing". That's me!
You can park on the street (Hickory and 13th St usually has spots), just not blocking the loading dock. There is also parking under the bridge and a parking lot at 13th and Liberty. If it's a Saturday night and it happens to fall on a First Friday weekend, ignore the cones and park wherever. Those cones are for daytime.
I'll be at the main entry door 5 mins early or so and can take the group up the freight elevator to the 4th floor. If you miss the boat either use the stairs or call me if you need the elevator. I'll be happy to bring it down. Please, don't try to operate the elevator yourself.
Don't wear your favorite clothes. If you get the acrylic paint on them it will dry like plastic, forever part of the fibers. I do have aprons now tho!
I have a cat (Lilly) and a dog (@actionjackhenry). Please be advised they are at the studio during these events. Only the dog accompanies me to the Blue Springs events...the kitty stays at the studio.
I'll have fun snacks and of course gift bags of fun goodies. If you have dietary needs like vegan or gf, be sure to let me know, so I can have snacks that you can eat. Of course, you're welcome to bring your own snacks as well.
I have a cold water dispenser, coffee and hot tea. Bring a soda if you'd like. Alcohol is fine.
The finish times are vague for a reason. This is a no rush experience. You can leave when you're finished/ready.
Note: During the month of October our usual 7pm sessions will begin at 5pm instead. This will help you not have to compete with haunted house patrons for parking. However, if you are scheduling a private party, the start time is totally up to you.
As for the typical Saturday evening themed art session...
I supply the canvas and paint. You can choose the size. I have a variety.
I have a slightly different approach than just copying a painting I premade. Instead, I provide you with inspiration materials and am available to help you decide on a composition. Then, you get a basic outline onto the canvas or just dive in and paint free form. You get as much or as little instruction from me as you want. Some people are high and just want to be left alone, others are budding painters at heart and want to soak up as much instruction as possible.
No prior experience is necessary.
Are you someone who would prefer to work from a predrawn painting, let me know. I have stencils I can lay out, or I can help draw it for you. There is nothing wrong with that. It's supposed to be a relaxing time and maybe you'd just like to keep it simple.
Can't find a friend to come with? No worries. Most people leave having made new friends with similar interests.
Drop me an email and make suggestions. Ask questions.
I want you to take home something you're proud of.
